Nothing in this blog can be believed. If you think that anything in this blog is true or factual, you'll need to verify it from another source. Do you understand? No? Then read it again, and repeat this process, until you understand that you cannot sue me for anything you read here. Also, having been sucked into taking part in the mass-murder of more than 3 million Vietnamese people on behalf of U.S. Big Business "interests", I'm as mad as a cut snake (and broke) so it might be a bit silly to try to sue me anyway...

Say NO!!!

This is worth your participation:
In the Valle de San Felix, the purest water in Chile runs from 2 rivers, fed by 2 glaciers.

Water is a most precious resource, and wars will be fought for it.

Indigenous farmers use the water, there is no unemployment, and they provide the second largest source of income for the area.

Under the glaciers has been found a huge deposit of gold, silver and other minerals. To get at these, it would be necessary to break, to destroy the glaciers - something never conceived of in the history of the world - and to make 2 huge holes, each as bi as a whole mountain, one for extraction and one for the mine's rubbish tip.

The project is called PASCUA LAMA. The operation is planned by a multi-national company called Barrick Gold.

The Chilean Government has approved the project to start this year, 2006.

The only reason it hasn't started yet is because the farmers have got a temporary stay of execution.

If they destroy the glaciers, they will not just destroy the source of especially pure water, but they will permanently contaminate the 2 rivers so they will never again be fit for human or animal consumption because of the use of cyanide and sulphuric acid in the extraction process.

Every last gram of gold will go abroad to the multinational company and not one will be left with the people whose land it is. They will only be left with the poisoned wate and the resulting illnesses.

The farmers have been fighting a long time for their land, but have been forbidden to make a TV appeal by a ban from the Ministry of the Interior.

Their only hope now of putting brakes on this project is to get help from international justice.

The world must know what is happening in Chile. The only place to start changing the world is from here.

The ice in a glacier is a living, moving creature. It doesn't begin where they are going to dig, it starts where the snow falls so how are they going to stop snow falling. Glaciers also have an effect on local climate not only on the water supply. Good luck if they think they'll ever tame a glacier or three, my money is on the ice.
Why am I not surprised that the Shrub's name appears?
America's greed is a neverending story.

just wrote this really great ranting reply but I lost it to the BlogspotMonster.

I'll try to do a cut-down re-make:

They WILL do it,JahTeh, if they're not stopped. The price of gold is going to go gangbusters when the global economy crashes in two to three years time due to oil depletion. Gold is where the rich park their millions whilst they ride out the depression and the rest of us starve. They'll use it to buy up our houses for peanuts and when things pick up again ten years later, they'll sell them back to the survivors at huge profits.

Those glaciers don't stand a chance and nor do the people downstream. Dare I say "Ok Tedi"??? And that was just about a bit of copper so we good little consumers can have our lectricity and lectrical gadgets...

This is the age of the resources pirates and they do it in the name "free trade" and "in the interests of the economy".

Today Chile, tomorrow Antarctica...

There's a buck to be made, JahTeh...

Makes ya proud to be part of "the first world" don't it?

They've really got their eyes on Antarctica. Australia is scaling down our presence there which scary but who knows what the rodent will sell off next. That's not defamatory, I didn't say which rodent.

You'll have to lift your insult bar, however are you going to top "whingeing gold digging skank"? Thank you LP.
