Nothing in this blog can be believed. If you think that anything in this blog is true or factual, you'll need to verify it from another source. Do you understand? No? Then read it again, and repeat this process, until you understand that you cannot sue me for anything you read here. Also, having been sucked into taking part in the mass-murder of more than 3 million Vietnamese people on behalf of U.S. Big Business "interests", I'm as mad as a cut snake (and broke) so it might be a bit silly to try to sue me anyway...

Pope Francis

Pope Francis, when he was a Cardinal in Argentina, lived a very frugal life.   Rather than avail himself of his entitlement to a chauffeur driven limousine, he would use public transport to get around.

Now that he is the Pope, will he forego the use of the Popemobile?

I've often wondered why the Pope needs bodyguards and a bulletproof carriage.  Does he not have faith in God to protect him?

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

13 May 1981: Mehmet Ali Agca pumps 4 shots into Pope John Paul II in St Peter's Square, failing to kill him. After that popemobiles were fitted with bulletproof glass.

I suppose devout Catholics will tell you that God did intervene on that occasion, since the assassination attempt failed. Also, 'God helps those who help themselves' and 'don't tempt providence'; while both sayings come from the ancient Greeks, they are widely understood today as an admonition not to rely solely on God for safety.

What if there's no god...

If there is no god, then putting your trust in God is suicidally stupid, and such nitwits have presumably been edited from the gene pool (a.k.a. made saints).

I note the ABC reported that after his first Mass Pope Francis took the bus back to the Vatican hostel with the other cardinals, which may not be hobnobbing with the common herd exactly, but it's a far cry from a papal chariot.

If there is no god, what the heck is that Pope guy all about?

But it does seem that he will try be more of a people's pope.

He has said that he will try to stamp out corruption in the Vatican. Bit of an oxymoron if there's no god..
