My dictionary tells me that an Empire's sovereign has the rank of Emperor or Empress. It also tells me that this rank is higher than the rank King or Queen.
So if wee Lizzie von Battenberg, nee Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, wants to hand out OBE's MBE's and CME's, then she must be saying that there is an Empire and that she is an Empress. Either that or these gongs have been awarded by an usurper and therefore they are worth zip...

The mind boggles .. an Aussie as "Commander" of the British Empire .. heh.
I saw the interview and he'd also like a knighthood. He'd also like to paint Charles and Camilla. As long as he doesn't paint them on horseback or we'll never work out which is which.

Nothing against the old duck personally, you understd. It's just that she dsigusts me by her lack of honesty by not declaring the monarchy "an idea whose use-by date has expired" and thereby disbanding it and retiring on the standard old age pension and going to live in a coucil flat.

Sorry, DS, but you get to keep The Shrub. We've already relegated our monarch to purely ceremonnial duties and placed her pretty much under house arrest2, only allowed out to make idiots feel better. But she still costs the public purse way too much money and should, as said, be stripped of here ill-begotten wealth and made to live out her time in a council flat on an average pension. Nothing less is acceptable.
Her Maj costs the British money. It's her dumb reps out here that costs us. Get rid of the useless GG & G twats and give the money to the poor....ME.
