same problem, different country...
(Heads-up by Satanical Susan)Friends of John Frasso were coming to terms Tuesday a day after the Vietnam War veteran they called “Gunship” took his own life outside the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Plains Township.
They wondered why Frasso, who enjoyed making children laugh and giving more than he received, shot himself with a .45-caliber handgun. A note apparently written by Frasso, 61, of Nescopeck, explained he was protesting the war in Afghanistan, Luzerne County Coroner Dr. Jack Consalvo said.

So sorry Gerry; these things know now boundaries.
Kurt, don't spare a thought for me. I don't have the guts to do what these guys did.
I doffs me lid to these guys. To quote that famous Australian Ode of Remembrance:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
I think it applies to these guys just as much.
A thread of irony runs through all these sad human currents. For Viet Nam vets, the self immolations by Buddhist monks as a protest to that war may be comming back in haunting way.
Yup, GS, that iron and the irony of vets who fought "agaist the spread of communism" becoming as outspoken agaist capitalism as the communists they killed. You got a few over there as well. Seems like the vets are waking up to what's been goin' on...
