Collapse
What do we mean by:
[1] Ecosystem / Food chain collapse
[2] Economic (Capitalism's?) collapse
[3] Population collapse
[4] Civilisation collapse
Hopefully, from the comments I'll be able to discern what the next blog item in this thread should be.
Also, perhaps someone will suggest what sort of domino effects might be lurking and what other factors might impact on any of the above items.
And if this blog post is just too bloody daft, it's OK to tell me that as well.

collapse: n. a falling away or breaking down: any sudden or complete breakdown or prostration - to cave in: to close or fold up: to go to ruin: to lose heart.
[Latin collapsus - col- together, and lapsus; to slide or fall.
At what point do you intend to begin the discussion?
You just started it.
OK, at this point methinks that 'collapse' is not such a bad thing. Throughout history galaxies, civilisations, ecosystems etc. have 'collapsed'. It is, methinks, just a 'process' whereby something different arises.
It is, perhaps, somewhat megalomaniac to believe - aka "Canute" - that perfectly normal, natural, "massive" processes that - once begun - can be halted, altered, or changed.
Methinks the key to "survival" is 'adaptation'.

"economic" collapses have been, over time, coped with. The Brazillian dollar, Bartercard. Very little is "disastrous" .. economically..
@Davoh - Canute knew perfectly well that the tide wouldn't obey him. The act was staged to demonstrate that God is greater than earthly kings. It was an act of piety. Assuming it ever happened at all, of course. See Wikipedia.
There have been at least 5 mass extinctions in the last 540 million years. No matter which of the possible causes for each you choose to subscribe to, it is obvious that the process, once begun, is inevitable. As you say.
And should i, or you - as apparently just - lay down and "accept"?
There may be a few Australian "aboriginal" tribes remaining.
@ Andrewm .. there is, as always among human beings .. a discussion about 'inevitability'.
Some say "God moves in mysterious ways"
some say "n'shalla" - or variations intepretations ...
@Andrewm .. how do know what a mythical .. oh, oops .. read it in a book somwhere ..
Actually thought? The 'King Canute" mythology is used as precisely that
and yes, Gerry, am still 'following' at least one of the 'threads'.
There ARE a couple of 'unclaimed' goats nearby. Food source.

Davo, at the risk of offending (something I seem to have natural ability to do perfectly), I would ask you to drop the number of comments and work a bit harder on increasing their quality.
Lemmiwinks, yes. Guilty as charged. Been a bit preoccupied and also suffering bloggers block. Or is it early onset dementia?
I'll pull me socks up eh?
