Nothing in this blog can be believed. If you think that anything in this blog is true or factual, you'll need to verify it from another source. Do you understand? No? Then read it again, and repeat this process, until you understand that you cannot sue me for anything you read here. Also, having been sucked into taking part in the mass-murder of more than 3 million Vietnamese people on behalf of U.S. Big Business "interests", I'm as mad as a cut snake (and broke) so it might be a bit silly to try to sue me anyway...

hello big brother ...

Well, according to an article in today's Sydney Morning Herald by Rob O'Neill, here in Australia the government has passed the Surveillance Devices Act into force last week.

It lets the Australian Federal Police and state police forces investigating Commonwealth crimes plant their own spyware on your computer (remotely and without your knowledge just like any other spyware) to monitor your online and offline computer activities (including keystrokes which you might later delete.) And don't for a minute think that any of the proprietory anti-spyware programs will detect and report this type of spyware. The Act has provisions prohibiting this. Sure, they need a warrant, but the conditions for granting a warrant aren't all that restrictive.

Say hello to Big Brother, everyone... "Hello, Big Brother..."

Consider the following:

If they have the ability to put spyware on your pooter, they can do so without a warrant. Do you trust the cops to remain ethical?

There's the malware out there that can take control of your pooter and download stuff onto it which you do not want and which you do not know has been put there.

Police forces have a nasty habit of "fitting you up" if it serves their purpose.

That's what really scares me.

Hey Angry, like your blog. Very Dave Hughes /Glasshouse. Nice touch.

And yeah, let's say you've got a politcal dissenter you want to shut up for a while:

Scenario one: Load the guy's pooter with child porn, bust him, let the media loose on the whole thing, and you'd pretty much destroy his whole life.

Scenario two: Load her pooter with bogus emails to/from known terrorist group. Include bogus plans for an actual terrorist act. Bust her. Bingo, "data taken from her computer provided evidence of her involvent with terrorists in planning to blow up the Tower of London."

Even better than DNA, which is damn easy to plant too...

I take back anything complimentary I might have conveyed about Angry's blog. I had only given it a very quick skim, and yet again, I've paid the price for not reading in detail and getting deeply into it. I had a good look at it today, and I won't be going back there.

Ah fox, it not for me to say here, but you can click on his name/link (the bit that's in red) in his comment and jump over to his blog and check it out for yourself for yourself. You never know, I might just be a prissy prude... Or a judgemental prick, or something...
