Open Season On The Greens
He is a typical victim of Tony Abbott's Liberal Party spin machine. He has been sucked in by Abbott's "blame the Greens" rhetoric.
The Libs could easily have agreed to the Gillard government's Malaysia-Nauru compromise offer, and thus the Greens' "intransigence" would not even remotely have been able to prevent the legislation being enacted. It would have been an example of bipartisan compromise.
This entire "blame the Greens" hysteria ignores the fact that no major policy back-down was required for Tony Abbott to agree to the legislation.
The Greens, for their part, were merely being true to their long-established onshore processing policy.
Thus, to blame the Greens is to be sucked in by Tony Abbott's Greens-bashing tactics.
Wake up, Australia, the problem is not the Greens, it's Tony Abbott.
Be careful what you vote for - you might get it...

You know, normally I agree with (most of) what you say, but on this occasion I don't. Gillard is an idiot. By proposing the Malaysia solution in the first place, she donated the moral high ground to Abbott, who could (and did) say, with perfect truth: " This is immoral because Malaysia is not a signatory to the CRSR nor the Protocol, but Nauru is. "
You claim Abbott could have accepted a compromise on Malaysia + Nauru, but it is equally the case that Gillard could junked the Malaysia processing component of the deal; if she just proferred Nauru Abbott would have signed up, and the Greens would have been sidelined.
I do agree that the Greens are not the problem here. We have 5 problems in Australian politics: the Labor Party, the Liberal Party, the National Party, the Greens and the independents.
I'll take the Gillard idiot before I'll take the Abbott idiot. And I agree with you Andrew, anyone who disagrees with us is an idiot. ;-)
I singled Abbott out because the Abbott idiot was trying to shift the blame for the legislation crashing onto the Greens, whereas the Gillard idiot was blaming it on the Abbott idiot.
Hope this makes sense. :-(
It is best to be in agreement with the imformed.
Ah Vesty... But are the "informed" perhaps misinformed?
