I get confused.

I do think that Islamic extremists are mounting terrorist attacks in the West. How organised and co-ordinated they are is a moot point.

Whilst they may have legitimate gripes, and I think they do, their actions are reprehensible and undermine their cause.

Then again, it's a bit stupid to complain about the actions of mad men when it is our actions which have driven them mad. That's part of the equation - the other part is that there are complete nutters preaching insane things at the extreme fringes of Islam, and mainstream moderate Islam must loudly and emphatically denounce these lunatics. All religious and political extremists give their respective movements a bad name. The Editorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03884172849865230486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6732615.post-1121384991425892472005-07-15T09:49:00.000+10:002005-07-15T09:49:00.000+10:00Theo, you have been taken to Stalag #17.Suki, I ca...Theo, you have been taken to Stalag #17.

Suki, I can't really claim that much of what I say is evidence-based. Just the ramblings of an very pissed-off Vietnam vet with a few screws loose upstairs. The Editorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03884172849865230486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6732615.post-1121326142825916292005-07-14T17:29:00.000+10:002005-07-14T17:29:00.000+10:00Guy, have you read the descriptions, by those who ...Guy, have you read the descriptions, by those who knew them, of these bombers? Have you been over to Suki's most excellent post using the link I provided? There you could have read this:"In fact, 42% have post-secondary educations, and they're part of concerted campaigns with coherent goals." - Robert Pape

Also, you don't draw a distinction between their planners, their commanders, and the "footsoldiers". Our own grunts aren't all that bright either, you know. I certainly wasn't at the time.

Perhaps you've been sucked in by the propagandists on our side. Beazely certainly has. I sure wouldn't follow that bumbling, "Boys Own" blubbering fool into battle any more than I would follow Little Johnnie HoWARd, I can tell you that much.

Nah... I wouldn't give too much credence to our spin meisters' or the media's hate-mongering crap...

If I were the Chief of the Defence Forces, I'd tell them all to shove their "war-on-terror" and I'd bring our boys and girls home. I certainly would not take part in these oil and gas thieving war crimes. This is no way to pursue "our interests". It demolishes our integrity and what little is left of our good reputation at the international level. The Editorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03884172849865230486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6732615.post-1121320740283666032005-07-14T15:59:00.000+10:002005-07-14T15:59:00.000+10:00Hard-nosed. But probably a fair take.

I think some of the people involved in this terrorism stuff are a little less intellectual and a little more psychotic than you give them credit for though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
